Rhinos and zebras and giraffes, oh my!

What would a trip to Africa be without a safari, right? As it turns out, Kruger National Park is supposed to be the #2 spot to actually see the animals we've all watched on Wild Kingdom up close and personal. Having seen this now, we don't know if we could ever go to a zoo again. Spectacular! The highlight was probably the rhinocerous, who, on our night game drive, decided to show us who was boss by occupying damn near the entire width of the road ahead of our truck. The second highlight had to be Julie and DeChane narrowly escaping with their lives as a gang of monkeys back at the hotel decided they were gonna try to go all WWF on them after tiring of wrestling each other.

The day game drive was just one gasp after another: herds of zebras, who seemed to stop and pose for your photos. Giraffes who would shy away slowly once you spotted them and a hyena with one ear chewed off just chilling at the side of the road watching the gaping tourists go by. The hippos were loud, and ginormous but stealth once they went underwater. We saw a whole community of elephants with several babies and at one point about 5 of them lined up and turned their backsides to us as if they were mooning us. Our guide then told us to keep a lookout at the back of the truck, since when babies are present, elephants get very protective and may rush you when you least expect it. At that point we told him it was all good, we'd seen enough. Ain't nobody coming to Africa to get trampled by an elephant.
